Understand how artificial intelligence is used in AsyncLife, what data is processed, and how you stay in control.

AI Capabilities

AsyncLife includes an optional AI chat assistant powered by a large language model. The assistant can help you with tasks, notes, and other content in your workspace through a conversational interface.

Tool-Based Responses

The assistant uses defined tools to read and modify your data (e.g., creating tasks, searching notes). It does not have unrestricted access — each action is scoped to specific, pre-defined operations.

Conversational Interface

You interact with the assistant via chat messages. It responds based on your input and the context of your workspace data.

What Data Is Processed

When you use the AI assistant, the following data may be sent to the language model provider for processing:

  • Your chat messages and conversation history
  • Task, note, and other workspace data accessed via tools during the conversation
  • Your locale and display preferences for personalized responses

Your data is never used to train AI models. The language model provider processes your requests and discards the data after generating a response.

How the AI Makes Decisions

The AI assistant is powered by Anthropic's Claude language model. Here is how it works:

Language Model

Responses are generated by a large language model that predicts likely continuations of the conversation based on patterns learned during training. It does not have beliefs, memory across sessions, or independent goals.

Tool Execution

When the assistant determines that a tool action is needed (e.g., creating a task), it generates a structured request. The server validates and executes the action. The assistant itself does not directly modify your data.

Content Moderation

Messages are subject to content moderation policies. The assistant will decline requests that violate usage policies or attempt to access data outside your workspace.

Limitations & Transparency

AI systems have inherent limitations that you should be aware of when using the assistant:

  • The AI may produce incorrect, incomplete, or outdated information. Always verify important details.
  • The assistant does not make autonomous decisions. It responds only to your explicit requests and requires your confirmation for significant actions.
  • AI responses are not a substitute for professional advice (legal, medical, financial, or otherwise).
  • The assistant can only access data within your workspace through pre-defined tools. It cannot access external systems or other users' data.

Your Controls

You have full control over your AI experience:

  • AI features require explicit consent before activation. You can revoke consent at any time in your account settings.
  • All AI chat messages are stored in your account and can be deleted at any time. Deleting a conversation permanently removes it.
  • You can use AsyncLife without any AI features. The assistant is entirely optional and does not affect core functionality.

Data Protection

Your AI interaction data is protected by the same security measures as all other data in AsyncLife:

  • Chat messages are stored in your personal account database, encrypted at rest.
  • Your conversations are never shared with other users, used for advertising, or sold to third parties.
  • Messages are retained only as long as you keep them. Deleting your account removes all associated AI data.
  • Data sent to the AI provider (Anthropic) is processed under a data processing agreement and is not retained for model training.
